I was delighted to discover this template! In the long run, I think we could replace a lot of our existing templates with variants on this one. Would there be any objections if I altered it so that it displays, for example:
- "As the author died in 1890, this work is also in the public domain in countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 100 years or less."
rather than just:
- "This work is also in the public domain in countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 100 years or less."
It'd help make things clear for reusers, I think - as it is, it's not immediately obvious why we've picked 70, 75, 80, etc. Andrew Gray (talk) 11:28, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
OK see Template talk:PD/1923. This version did exactly what you speak of by calling {{PD-old- n-1923}} for n in {50, 60, 70, 75, 80, 90, 100} --Gorup (talk) 13:03, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

Check for future dates[edit]
Looking through Category:PD Old auto: author died less than 50 years ago, I found File:Albrecht Dürer - Hare, 1502 - Google Art Project retuschiert.jpg, which had a deathyear=11528. Perhaps there should be a red error or categorization if the death date is in the future?--Prosfilaes (talk) 04:34, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
